Meet the Team

Emily- Owner

"From a young age I've had a passion for learning about and caring for animals. I have had dogs and cats my whole life and have work experience from previous equine care roles. I am competent and confident with all aspects of animal care from having my own pets and from working around so many animals.

I have a Level 3 Diploma in Horse Care and Management from attending Writtle University College back in 2016. I have previous experience working with all types of horses; from young stock to stallions. I have knowledge on basic First Aid, and competition grooming. I have worked in Riding Schools, Competition Livery yards and a Veterinary Clinics Yard.

I have experience caring for all different types of dogs, from your energetic youngsters to easy-going elders. I have grown up with dogs, having breeds such as Labrador, Jack Russel, Border Collie and Spaniels. I have also worked with reactive dogs and am therefore knowledgeable on some canine body language and techniques to handle scenarios safely.

I have completed a course in Canine First Aid and CPR lead by Kate Middleton BSc MSc PGCE at Writtle University College. I have also completed  online courses learning about the unneutered female and young dogs provided by Dr Sophie Bell. In February of 2023 I attended a course for Dog Walkers/Pet Sitters and learning about Canine Behaviour, also run by Kate and at WUC.

I also have experience caring for small animals such as Cats, Guinea Pigs, Rabbits, Parrots, Fish and Tortoises.

Since starting A Helping Hand in September 2021 I am working with more breeds and Species. I am forever learning when it comes to caring for your lovable pets.

I am excited to meet more of your amazing pets and be A Helping Hand you can rely on!"

"I have been in the background at A Helping Hand since the very beginning. Helping Emily behind the scenes with growing the business and helping with dog walking. My growing passion for dogs started when getting our own dog, Cleo, in September 2022. Since having her from a puppy I have developed a love of training and dog walking. I have been accompanying Emily on lots of her dog walks over the last few years, gaining lots of experience through being hands on with the dogs and also learning from Emily.

I have had family dogs and pets growing up, so I have been brought up around animals and have always wanted a dog of my own. I was hesitant when we had the opportunity to get Cleo initially as I know how big a commitment having a dog is. They are like having a child, same as any pet, they are a big part of the family! I am so pleased now that we have Cleo and she really has changed my life and interests. I have learnt about the basics of Canine body Language through training Cleo as she can be nervous of new things and people in particular.

I have recently attended a Canine First Aid course which I have received certification for and I am also DBS Checked.

In my spare time I enjoy running and I would be happy to run/jog with your dog if you were happy for me to and your dog is fit and able. I thoroughly enjoy helping people care for their pets in particular my passion is for dogs.

I do have experience caring for small animals too as we have Guinea Pigs, Chickens, Tropical Fish and a Cat, so I am confident in caring for almost every pet and eager to learn if not!"
